Common Lab Chemicals
with Precaution & Storage

Hydrochloric Acid (HCl)

Corrosive | Use fume hood

Storage: Acid cabinet, separate from bases. Precaution: Wear gloves & goggles. Usage: pH adjustment, cleaning metals.

Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH)

Caustic | Hygroscopic

Storage: Tightly closed, dry place. Precaution: Causes severe burns. Use eye protection. Usage: Neutralization, saponification.

Sulfuric Acid (H₂SO₄)

Dehydrating | Strong acid

Storage: Acid cabinet, secondary containment. Precaution: Always add acid to water. Use fume hood. Usage: Catalyst, pH adjustment.

Ethanol (C₂H₅OH)

Flammable | Solvent

Storage: Flammable cabinet, away from ignition sources. Precaution: No flames. Use in well-ventilated area. Usage: Solvent, disinfection.

Emergency Response

Step-by-Step SOPs
with Interactive Simulation

Acid Spill on Floor

  • Immediate Action
  • PPE Required

Neutralize with sodium bicarbonate, contain spill, dispose safely.

Chemical Fire (Small)

  • Evacuate if large
  • Use fire blanket

Smother with fire blanket or dry sand. Never use water on flammable liquids.

Chemical Splash on Skin/Eyes

  • Rinse immediately
  • 15 minutes min.

Use eyewash station or safety shower. Remove contaminated clothing.
